Nick Beckett is the pen name of Niall Boyce. Niall has worked as a psychiatrist, medical journal editor, and research funder. The Book of Martyrs is his first crime novel, and was inspired by the Elizabethan astrologer and real-life rogue Simon Forman, whose dream diaries he researched for his PhD in English Renaissance literature.
